In poker the player who has forced his opponents to abandon their hands or who has the best hand when it's time to show the cards at the final round (the showdown) is the winner. In case that you are an inexperienced player and do not have the idea of how is determinate the best hand I can explain it quickly to find out who has the best hand there is a classification of possible combination of cards.
In poker there are some different hand classifications that contain strong hands as a straight flush or royal flush, to more weak hands like One pair hands or High card hands.
Depending on the strong of the hand, it is more difficult to be obtained by a player. The probabilities that a player have to obtain an specific hand is determinate by the number of possible combination that we can do with a simple deck.
It's important to consider that depending on the version of poker that you choose to play the different suits will include (the common suites more used are hearts, clubs, spades, and diamonds) and that the value of the cards may chance a little in some poker games the Ace is the highest hand, in other is the lower.
As an example, I can mention one of the different types of hands, this one is called three of a kind (also is well known as trips or set).
To obtain this hand you need to know that the probability is a 2.1%because there are 54.912 possible three of a kind hands that are not also full houses.
A three of a kind hand, is formed by 3 cards of the same rank value, plus two unmatched cards. The lower three of a kind hand contains a trio of twos and the higher three of a kind hand contains a trio of aces.
Other example of this hand is: 2♦ 2♠ 2♣K♠ 6♥ (a trio of twos, and an unmatched pair formed by a k of spades, and a 6 of hearts)
As I mentioned before there are different versions of poker and the hands will depend of it. For example, in Texas hold 'em and other flop games, when a three of a kind hand contains a pocket pair and one card of matching rank on the board it is called a "set" and is different from a common three of a kind because in the regular version there are two matching cards on the board and a third in the player's hand.
