Maximizing Luck

In poker, luck is not about happiness or sorrow. Here the luckiest player at the table is the one who gets the most out of a stroke of good luck when it happens. There's good luck and bad luck, and no matter if you are superstitious or not, in poker, you can see when an inexperienced player is unusually lucky. In some cases, the rookie will lament the luck of a more accomplished opponent.

If you think about it, you will notice that it is human nature to attribute luck to skills. Sometimes the human's rationalization is not taken into account because people can't see the talent behind chance. But you need to know that the cards don't do the entire job. You can have great cards, and this may be lucky, but playing them for maximum effect is not.

In poker we see good players and bad players. Some people say that it is easy to play good when you are getting good cards, but only a good player can play well when he isn't. This makes all the difference between players and exposes the interesting ability of each player to confront every situation.

When you are an inexperienced player it is difficult to see the diverse ways in which luck manifests itself. In the case of the experienced players, they recognize and exploit them at every opportunity.

For example, when an opponent fails to follow through on a pre-flop raise and checks the flop, it may be simple to you contradistinguish a poor player because he maybe check along, while a good player feels their weakness and takes the pot down. You can see a bad player concerned with protecting his hand, and then complain about his bad luck when he is out-drawn on the river.

Luck happens when you can see your opponents at the table tighten up as you approach the bubble of a tournament. Maybe the bad players will tighten up as well, and pray they take the money. But good players know that they have to get aggressive and accumulate chips.

Finally, you can see luck when you make an incredible hand. An experienced player studied his opponents during the game and knows them and their tendencies, can predict their next movements, and knows what other players think about him. Making constant adjustments and mixing up his own game, a good player will be sure to keep his opponents out of balance.

On the other hand, a bad or inexperienced player rarely thinks about his opponents' thought and the movements they are planning. This kind of player just makes a wager hoping for the best, and he doesn't know how to take maximum advantage out of his hand.
